Florida Small Farms & Alternative Enterprises Conference The University of Florida hosted its 2nd Florida Small Farms & Alternative Enterprises Conference on July 31 and August 1 in Kissimmee, FL. For the second year in a row, nearly 800 attendees participated in their choice of 36 educational sessions on Alternative Energy, Policy and Regulations, Livestock, Business and Marketing, Horticulture and Organic and Sustainable Farming. Sessions were conducted by farmers, industry and agency representatives, researchers, and policy-makers, and included demonstrations and hands-on activities. The event featured Mr. Will Allen CEO of Growing Power, Inc. as the keynote speaker, 87 exhibits, 18 educational posters, 9 live animal exhibits, a great diversity of delicious food from Florida small farms, and three Innovative Farmer awardees. The event provided an opportunity to build a small farms industry and improve the lives of hundreds of Florida farm families. The University of Florida’s Small Farms Extension Team led the effort.
